Auctions at Artcurial: The Polochon painted by Akira Kugimachi
Artcurial selected one of the pieces from the collection "Regards croisés sur le Polochon" for a sale at the Hotel Drouot on Friday 23 October 2015. It is a model made with the Japanese painter Akira Kugimachi, paint inspired by a Japanese forest in Kotohira where the Shintô Kotohira-gu shrine is located.
The nature questioned by light and infinity in an almost philosophical way is an emblematic subject of the work of the Japanese artist. Reference is made to the 16th century Shorin-Zu paint of the Great Master Hasegawa.
Pigments Minerals, Lapis Lazuli, Coral, casefish, Marble and Crystal with Skin glue, China Ink on Polochon in Natural Calf leather.
The Polochon is a hybrid bag at the crossroads of fashion, craft and design. It is made from an exclusive know-how that has been the subject of a patent for invention: flexible leather.
The body of the Polochon consists of a single piece of leather and the process makes it possible to give it an unusual volume, a purity with ovoid shapes and without stops which inspired Akira Kugimachi for the realization of her paint.
This collaboration echoes the mural carried out in Kenzo Takada's apartment in Paris.
The bag was one of the pieces exhibited at Artcurial at the Rond-Point des Champs-Elysées from September 29 to October 7, 2015.
