La Reine des Incas

The Queen of the Incas

A free reinterpretation of the Queen of the Incas on the occasion of the Montmartre grape harvest at the Town Hall of the 18th arrondissement of Paris.

An Inca legend tells that Inti, the sun god, decided to send his son Ayar Manco and his daughter Mama Ocllo to earth to build a great empire and civilize men. They would appear between the waters of Lake Titicaca and would go up towards the North equipped with a magic golden staff. Where the staff would sink effortlessly, the land would be rich enough to establish the capital.

Legend has it that men followed them in secret because they had recognized gods in them from the richness of their clothes and the brilliance of their jewelry. One morning they arrived in a beautiful valley surrounded by majestic mountains and the stick sank gently into the ground. Thus was born Cuzco, which means "navel" in the Quechua language: the navel of the world, capital of the Empire of the Sun, the Inca Empire!

The Inca is the emperor. He lives surrounded by rare and beautiful feathers, and especially gold, symbol of the sun, especially in the form of discs. The "mascaipacha", a multi-colored braid wrapped several times around the head, is a distinctive sign of Inca sovereignty. On the occasion of the Montmartre Harvest we freely reinterpreted these different elements to imagine a fantastical Queen of the Incas...

So she comes down to us armed with her magic staff, in a dress entirely braided with 900 meters of fine ribbons!

White chocolate discs, shimmering with colors like precious stones, are connected to each other like suns, by means of gold chains. They draw a truly royal adornment on the dress thus braided...

Finally, a headdress decorated with 50 peacock feathers completes the silhouette of our Queen. Thus adorned, here she is ready to found a new Cuzco, in our dreams this time...
